If you are feeling stress and anxious right now, you are not alone! Things are changing so rapidly it feels like your head is spinning. In this time of ramped up stress and worry if we leave our anxiety unchecked, we can end up feeling the repercussions. So how do we deal with all of this? I think prioritizing your worries is key. Here are some simple easy steps to follow that will help you with this.
1- Make a list of the things that you are worrying or stressing about?
2- Identify each item on the list in one of the following categories
- Something that needs to be dealt with and could be possibly resolved now or soon
- Worries that can wait and don’t need to be addressed immediately
- Things that are out of your control and can’t change
3- Start with the items on your list that are out on control. If you cannot change them or solve them, let them go. Why waste your energy on focusing on things that you cannot change or control? Now take a deep breath knowing you can let some of your worries go.
4- The items that can wait and don’t need to be addressed right now- let them go for now. Keep this list and you can come back to them later if necessary. Maybe even adding a date that seems appropriate can be helpful.
5- The items that fall in the worries that can be addressed and possibly resolved are the ones that you should focus on. Make a plan for each item of how you can resolve it. If you are worried because you need groceries, make a plan on when you can go get them, time or day that may have less traffic than others.
Prioritizing your worries during this difficult time will bring down your stress level. Focus on what you can control and change. The things you can control while staying at home is that you can still reach out to friends and family, practice gratitude for all that you do have in your life and take this opportunity to rest, refresh and recharge.
Remember there are more things going right than wrong.
